Portland Group Tours the Textile Hive on May 15

Our next meeting will be a field trip to the Textile Hive, on Wednesday, May 15, at 10 AM.  The Textile Hive is located at 133 SW 2Nd Ave, Suite 430, Portland, 97204.  There is no sign, just the address over a glass door with a brick arch.  It’s on the west side of 2nd, their maybe street parking, but there are a couple of pay lots nearby.  The tour should last approximately 1 1/2 hours and a $5.00 fee will be collected from each member.  We encourage you to carpool and allow plenty of time to get there; MAX tracks are nearby.  The Hive is a collection of over 40,000 textiles, spanning 50 countries.  Many designers use the collection for inspiration for apparel, footwear, wallpaper and upholstery.  The creator, Andrea Aranow stated, “ I’ve always enjoyed textiles.  I am entranced by their colors and patterns, love their touch and plasticity.  The stories of these fabrics make them even richer.”

Time to Submit - SAQA Regional WA-OR "On the Edge"

Get ready Oregon Region artists to submit your art pieces for the upcoming On the Edge exhibit!  The deadline for submission is January 31, 2019. Size limits are 2D: 24” - 48” w, 114” h and 3D: 18” w, 20” h.

This is a one venue exhibit at the Oregon Historical Society (OHS) from May - August, 2019. OHS is a tourist draw and anticipates at least 25,000 visitors during the run of the show. On the Edge at the Historical Society venue is an exciting opportunity for SAQA Oregon artists to display their work in a museum setting in the heart of Portland’s cultural district. SAQA and OHS will host a reception for On the Edge in conjunction with the OHS community event speaker series on May 23, 2019, with Ann Johnston, renowned artist, as the featured speaker.

Show Concept: What does “ on the edge" bring to mind for you? Is it the physical edges of nature (such as gorges, mountain peaks or shorelines), societal edges formed between different groups or philosophies or a certain personal "edginess" in style or attitude? Oregon Region artists are invited to submit work that reflects thoughts about “on the edge" as related to their Oregon experience in a representational or abstract way.

For more information and to make your submission, please follow this link: http://saqacallforentryedge.com  Questions can be sent to any exhibit committee member.

Holiday Pot Luck November 28 for SAQAOregon Members

Yummy yum yum!
Come to our holiday pot luck to fill your tum!
It might be rainy, it might be cold,
can I entice you with my famous marshmallow Jello mold?
Never fear, just my little joke.
Ha ha, just wanted to give you a little poke.
Of course you will want to bring something to share.
Make it or buy it, we don’t care.
Oh, before I forget, if a few deviled eggs should appear,
you will hear a very loud cheer!
Being your leader has been fun,
but come January I will be done.
Alas my friends what will we do
after I say a fond adieu!
Holiday Potluck November 28
11:00-1:00 at the Beaverton Community Center
