The four SAQA Oregon groups are
meeting this month.
The “Blending Poetry & Cloth” SAQA Oregon Regional
Exhibit is now open at the Chehalem Cultural Center in Newberg. The art director, Erin Padilla is very pleased with
the exhibit. The exhibit catalogs are on sale at the center. The Opening Reception for the exhibit is Friday, April
28th from 5:30 to 8:00 pm. Refreshments
will be served.
Thanks to the team that planned and installed the exhibit in
Newberg – Leotie Richards, Elizabeth Bamberger, Sheryl LeBlanc, Lottie Smith
and Deb Sorem.
The “Bridge” SAQA Oregon Regional Exhibit Call for Entry opens May 1st. The prospectus is now available online as an HTML page including a
preview of the entry page.
There are a couple of minor
revisions to the Appendix in the BRIDGE prospectus:

In the
checklist for submitting work, the Artist Statement has been revised to read as
follows: Why you created this work and its
relationship to the show concept BRIDGE.

Logistics:
Packaging requirements have been updated,
specifying consistent component labeling regardless of whether the art is
rolled or uses alternative protective packaging.
We are looking
forward to seeing the beautiful works of art from our members!
Submissions
are being accepted for the 2017
SAQA Benefit Auction. These
12" x 12" pieces will be auctioned online starting this September.
Get your piece to SAQA by April 1st so you can be featured in
promotional materials. Final Deadline: June 1st.
The 2017
SAQA Conference,
“Creation to Curation”, will be held April 27-30 in Lincoln, Nebraska. The Layered Voices SAQA Exhibition will open at the
International Quilt Study Center & Museum during the conference. The 2017 SAQA Trunk Show will premier at the conference. The SAQA Spotlight Auction donation pieces will be sold in a
silent auction at the conference banquet and proceeds of sales will benefit
SAQA’s exhibition programs. Sixteen SAQA
Oregon members are registered to attend this year’s conference.
The 2017 SAQA Trunk Show will be in Oregon from May-August 2017.
In May it will be shown at the Central Oregon SAQA meeting, in June at
the Valley-South SAQA meeting, and in July at the Portland SAQA meeting.

Conference will be held Thursday, October 18, 2018 at Lane Community College,
Center for Meeting and Learning in Eugene.

ROGUE VALLEY SAQA Pod
The Rogue
Valley group usually meets on the third Monday of the month at Sew Creative in
Ashland. Times and days of meetings may be different, so check in advance with
Lynne Goulette: lynnegoul@gmail.com.

CENTRAL OREGON SAQA Pod
Central Oregon SAQA meets
Thursday, April 20th at 3:30 pm at the Stitchin’ Post in Sisters.
Oregon quilt artist Georgia French
will share her experiences judging one of China’s first quilt shows.
Last month we had a great
discussion of creating 3-D art and various ways to finish quilts…thank you
Helen Brisson, Barbara Doust-Boggess and Donna Rice.
PORTLAND SAQA Pod
The next meeting of
the SAQA Portland pod will be on Wednesday, April 19, 10-12PM, at the Beaverton Community Center, 12350 SW 5th St,
Beaverton, presenting Ann Johnston as our speaker. It is a joint event with
HFD. Attendance requires prepayment. For more information, contact Annette
McFarlane.
VALLEY-SOUTH SAQA Pod
Valley-South will meet on Friday, April 21st at 2 pm
at Eugene Textile Center and gather before the meeting for lunch at La Perla at
12:30 for excellent pizza, sandwiches and conversation.
We are looking forward to participating in the juried
Regional Exhibit "Bridge" as well as our own Pod exhibit
"Pathways" at the OSU Memorial Union as part of Quilt County in
October.
New Pod Co-Leaders Lynda Christiansen and Jana
Cunningham have volunteered and will lead the group with enthusiasm and organization
beginning in June.
Our Artist of Inspiration is Mary Oliver and
members' works will be presented at the June meeting to allow ample time for
the creative spirit to strike everyone. Thank you, Jana Cunningham, for
suggesting such a lovely poet!
The Demo following our meeting will be conducted by
Angee Peterson, "Photography Hints, Questions and Answers" beginning
at 3:15 pm.

The SAQA Oregon Blog, saqaoregon.blogspot.com is where public SAQA Oregon
Regional information is posted. It is the place to go for up to date
information on SAQA Oregon Pod meetings, SAQA Oregon Regional Exhibits and SAQA
Oregon Regional Conferences. Resources, calls for entry and other
regional news is also available on the blog. The blog also provides links
to SAQA Oregon Member websites and blogs. To submit news for the blog,
please follow the instructions in the bottom right corner of any blog page.
