Calls for Entry

PROSPECTUS:  SAQA Oregon Regional Juried Exhibit:
“EXPLORING LAYERS”

All active members (as of October 1st, 2013) are invited to submit entries to our third juried show:  “Exploring Layers.”

“Exploring Layers” will give the artist an opportunity to pick any subject or concept and explore it through its layers.  Layers can be concrete, or simply conceptual and abstract.  They are universal.  Time adds layers to the past, present and future.   Objects and ideas have layers of meaning.  Layers conjure up many ideas and are entirely open to your interpretation.

CALENDAR

October 1 through 31st, 2013: Entry submittal through www.saqa.com.

December 9, 2013:  Notification to all entrants of selection of works.

2014:  Exhibit travels.  All details on venues will be posted on the Oregon SAQA blog:  www.saqaoregon.blogspot.com

JUROR:  Renee Couture, BA., MFA

Renee Couture is a mixed media artist who works primarily in sculpture, photography and installation.  Her interest is in postmodern environmentalism and bioregional ethics.  She graduated from Buena Vista University with a BA a Studio Art in 1999.  After a stint in the Peace Corps, she moved to Oregon in 2004, earning her MFA in Visual Art from Vermont College of Fine Arts in 2010.  Her work has been shown nationally in group exhibits.  In 2013 she was featured on Oregon Public Broadcasting’s Oregon ArtBeat program.  Renee teaches a variety of art classes at Umpqua Community College in Roseburg, OR.  Her academic training and wide experience, her eye for the unusual, her sense of whimsy and her passion for art, justice and sustainability will all contribute to her selections for SAQA’s “Exploring Layers.”  Renee states that she has the greatest respect for textile artists, as it is not a medium she has mastered!

Artists are responsible for shipping or delivery of accepted works to the exhibition committee by January 15th, 2014.  The exhibit will remain intact for the year, unless special arrangements are made with the exhibition committee.

Work can be for sale, or NFS.  Most venues charge up to a 40% commission for sales.  Some venues will show only work that is for sale.

The Exhibition Committee reserves the right to refuse to exhibit or to remove from the exhibition any work which is of poor quality or which has been  misrepresented in the entry process, or substituted for accepted work.

Good luck!  We are looking forward to an exciting exhibit that will showcase the talent and diversity of our Oregon SAQA members.
