The four SAQA Oregon groups met
this month.
The “Blending Poetry &
Cloth” SAQA Oregon Regional Exhibit finished its run at the Chehalem Cultural Center in Newberg. Thanks to the team that took down the
quilts – Diane and Fred Born, Deb Sorem, and Erin from the Center. The exhibit is on its way to the final venue
of its two year run in Baker City. It
will open at Crossroads Carnegie Art Center at 10am on Friday June 2nd.
The opening reception is from 5:30-8pm on Friday June 2nd. The show ends Friday June 30th.
Registration
for the “Bridge” SAQA Oregon Regional
Exhibit is now open … closing May 31st, 2017 at 10:00 PDT (Note: The Art Call system operates in

A little known fact: The juror can filter
the order of images by a number of different fields, however, the default is
the order in which they are received. So, to all members who have already
submitted entries, currently your entries are at the top of the list.
Submissions
are being accepted for the 2017
SAQA Benefit Auction. These
12" x 12" pieces will be auctioned online starting this September. Final
Deadline: June 1st.
The 2017
SAQA Conference,
“Creation to Curation”, was held April 27-30 in Lincoln, Nebraska. The Layered Voices SAQA Exhibition opened at the
International Quilt Study Center & Museum during the conference. The 2017 SAQA Trunk Show premiered at the conference. SAQA Oregon members Wendy Hill and Georgia French gave “Lightning
Talks”, presenting 20 slides for 20 seconds per slide. Wendy presented “On Making, Creativity and
Closing the Gap” and Georgia presented “Oregon – She Flies With Her Own Wings”. A SAQA video debuted at the conference; Oregon’s Sherri Culver is one of the people
interviewed in the video
The 2017 SAQA Trunk Show is in Oregon from May-August 2017.
We have Trunk F, a collection of 57 pieces. In
May it was shown at the Central Oregon SAQA meeting, in June it will be at the
Valley-South SAQA meeting, and in July at the Portland SAQA meeting. However -
this does not mean it will appear only at Pod meetings. As much fun as
it is for us to see the great artwork in the trunk, it is also an outreach tool
for SAQA. If any SAQA member had an idea for where the trunk show could
be taken - to a guild? to an art center for a brief presentation? -
contact Georgia French (gfrench1946@gmail.com) and we will try to
make it happen. Also, the exact dates that the trunk will be
moving around the state aren't yet set - we'll be reaching out to you to see if
you can help with that. We hope all SAQA Oregon members get a
chance to see the show.
Thanks to Katie Walwyn and Carolyn
Walwyn for facilitating the Valley-South meetings. Welcome to Lynda Christiansen and Jana
Cunningham as the new Valley-South facilitators. Thanks to Georgia French and Pat
Pease for volunteering to work on the 2018 Conference Committee.
Sherri Culver and I will be
finishing up our terms as Regional Co-Representatives this year. Serving as a Regional Co-Rep is a great
opportunity to contribute to the organization and to work with other local and
global members. If you are interested
in serving as a Regional Co-Representative, please contact marion.shimoda@gmail.com or sherriculverquilts@gmail.com or Desiree Vaughn, SAQA’s
Regional Rep Coordinator, repscoordinator@saqa.com for more information and an
application form.
