Kerler, Jaszkowski, and Stevens Exhibit in Folk Tale Challenge

 

Kathie Kerler, Laura Jaszkowski, and Emily Stevens have work in the International Fairy/Folk Tale Challenge which debuts this month in Japan. There are three venues in Japan, then the exhibition travels to France for 2016 and 2017. The quilts will show in the US in 2018. Venues in France and the US are yet to be announced. There are 30 fairy/folk tales interpreted by 30 quilters in each of the three participating countries, resulting in three interpretations of the same tale. The photo mosaic shows the 30 quilts done by those of us in the US. Kathie's is in the third row down from the top on the far right: How the Rainbow Was Made: An Ojibwe Nation Creation Tale. Laura's is in the second row down from the top, second from the right and entitled: The Sadness of Yuki-onna. Emily's is in the top row, far right, Pinocchio.

SAQA Oregon Members to Exhibit at SurFace Forward

SAQA Oregon members Kathie Kerler, Mary Ann McCammon, Bonnie Bucknam, Sherri Culver, Jill Haddock, Laura Jaszcowski, Karen Miller, and Gerrie Congdon will have work in the exhibition SurFace Forward at The Arts Center in Corvallis, Oregon. The exhibition dates are August 22 - September 29, 2013.  There is a receiption from 5:30 - 7:30pm on August 22, and a Brown Bag Art Talk at noon on August 28.  The Arts Center is located at 700 SW Madison Avenue in Corvallis.

Kathie Kerler Exhibits in Astoria, Oregon

Kathie Kerler has had her piece, Shore Pines in Mist, juried into the Coastal Fiberarts 2013 exhibition. Shows dates are July 18 - August 15th.  The exhibition is on display at Clatsop Community College in Astoria, OR.

Kathie Kerler Selected for Exhibition and Grant

Kathie Kerler is one of forty artists selected to create work for the upcoming Studio Art Quilt Associates' Radical Elements Exhibition. Each artist will create a new work influenced by an element from the periodic table (Kathie's is #15, phosphorus). Inspirations may come from anything relating to the element, whether it is a play on the name, its color, properties, or the products made from it. As the second part of the Radical Elements theme, the artists are asked to move quilting beyond the usual materials of fabric and thread, exploring the function and decorative properties of different surfaces and stitching materials. Work is due September 2013 and venues are being confirmed.


Kathie has been awarded a Personal Development Grant from the Regional Arts and Culture Council, which encompasses Multnomah, Washington, and Clackamas counties for Spring 2013.

During the month of July, the Oregon History Museum will showcase a stunning selection of art quilts made by local and international artists. The exhibit began with booking Quilt Art 20, an exhibit featuring quilts created by 20 professional international quilt artists. Since its beginning in Britain in 1985, the traveling exhibit features artists from the United States and Europe, representing eight countries in total. To insert a local element to the exhibit, a selection of historic quilts from the Oregon Historical Society’s collection were added to the exhibit, as well as quilt art from 10 contemporary quilters in Oregon. Quilt Art 20 became Timeless Quilts.

Oregon Artists include: Ann Johnston, Hilde Morin, Jean Wells, Jeannette Meyer, Susan Bucharest, Quinn Corum, Wendy Huhn, Marjorie Post, Kathie Kerler and Helene Knott.

Kathie Kerler Exhibits Coast to Coast

Kathie Kerler work, "Split Infinity" has been juried into the SAQA exhibition Volusia--Wrapped in Fiber at the Gateway Center for the Arts in DeBary, Florida from February 15 to April 3, 2011.

She has a second piece entitled "Point Loma--San Diego" in an invitational themed show called the Lighthouse Art Quilts 2011. The show will travel to a variety of venues in California through the upcoming year as a fundraising benefit for lighthouse restoration for Point Pinos Lighthouse and Point Sur Lightstation. Kathie Kerler Receives First Place at Rocky Mountain Quilt Museum

At the Ocean's Edge by Kathie Kerler

Kathie Kerler was awarded first place in the Evolutions Exhibition at the Rocky Mountain Quilt Museum for her piece "At the Ocean's Edge." The exhibition asked that fiber artists expand upon the concept of a quilt to create something new in idea, method, or device. Kathie's quilt features a dimensional technique which uses strips of fabric sewn in a figure-eight that is flattened into mobius trefoils of triangular shapes.
