Update on Portland Area Meetings

On Wednesday, March 9, 2010, the fifth SAQA Oregon Portland area meeting was held at the Lakewood Center, Lake Oswego following the Columbia Fiberarts Guild meeting. There were 22 people present.

Georgia and Laura shared with the group that Jean Wells Keenan of Sisters and Betty Davis-Daggett of Portland will become the new SAQA Oregon co-representatives. They will begin training for this task immediately and phase into their new roles over the next several months.

Georgia and Laura also announced there will be an "Oregon, State of Diversity 2012" exhibit. Georgia and Laura have volunteered to chair that project.

The group decided to survey the membership of SAQA Oregon to obtain information about what members want from having an active chapter in Oregon. Betty Colburn and Sue Karstad volunteered to create and disseminate an online survey using. When the survey arrives in your email, please take a few minutes to respond.

Because the June 8,2011 Columbia Fiberart Guild meeting will be in the evening, the group decided to hold a dinner meeting at a restaurant before the CFG meeting. Betty Colburn has arranged for the use of the “party room” at Goose Hollow Inn, 1927 S.W. Jefferson Street, http://www.goosehollowinn.com/. This will be a primarily social event. We will meet at 4:00pm in order to be served and finished eating by 6:30pm. Goose Hollow Inn is very near to First United Methodist Church where the CFG meeting is to start at 7:00pm.Please call or email Betty Colburn 503-327-90334 or bettystitch4u@yahoo.com by June 3 so we can give Goose Hollow a head count.

CALL TO ARTISTS -- OREGON SAQA'S SECOND STATE-WIDE JURIED EXHIBIT!

OREGON: STATE OF DIVERSITY II will travel throughout the state during 2012 and 2013. We have had a wonderful response to our first exhibit (which is still traveling) and we expect that will translate to more viewers and more venues for this one. Start planning your entry now. We encourage you to interpret the theme in any way you wish -- literally, figuratively, abstractly --- show us the diversity of Oregon SAQA member artists.

DEADLINE FOR ENTRIES: AUGUST 20, 2011. The complete prospectus is on this blog on the Prospectus Page.

Any questions may be addressed to co-curators Georgia French (gfrench@rosenet.net) and Laura Jaszkowski (joyincloth@gmail.com). Other members of the exhibit committee are SAQA members Betty Colburn, Terry Grant, and Nancy Kibbey.

We are in discussion with several venues and will post them on the blog as they are confirmed. This show will travel and be seen by people all over the state. We encourage all Oregon SAQA members to enter!
