Central Oregon Pod Meets November 16

Our November Central Oregon SAQA meeting will be on Thursday 11/16 @ 3:00pm.  Due to a scheduling conflict the meeting will be @ the Sisters Artworks building (204 W Adams Ave, Sisters).  That location is 3 blocks from the Stitchin’ Post.

This meeting will be a recap of quilt shows including Houston Quilt Festival, Quilters Take Manhattan, Quilts=Art=Quilts, and Festival of Quilts Birmingham, England.  The next best thing to being there!  Look forward a very interactive meeting with several of our members reflecting on their inspiration from 3 very different shows.  Hopefully, you will be able to find some inspiration of your own.

Due to the location change expect a few extra emails reminding everyone of the change.  I am also asking for everyone’s announcements and brags.  Please forward any good news to share.  We learn and grow from each other.

I hope to see everyone there!  If you have questions or concerns, please contact Kristan Collins at colorkcc@icloud.com.

CENTRAL OREGON SAQA Pod

Our October Central Oregon SAQA meeting will be on Thursday 10/19 @ 3:00pm at the Stitchin’ Post.  We have an earlier start due to a longer presentation.

This month we will explore the role of a quilt exhibition juror.  Come prepared to step out of your creative role and step into the role of a juror.  We will talk about quilt exhibition concepts and how a juror must select quilts that reflect this concept.  You will then select your show from images compiled by national SAQA.  This presentation is adapted from SAQA’s 2017 Annual Conference and should be very interesting.  As the meeting approaches I will send an assortment of links to articles about jurying an exhibition and being judged by a juror.  Stay tuned...

After the meeting we will be gathering for our post meeting social at a local watering hole.  We had a great time connecting last month at the Sisters Saloon.  It was a treat to spend more time together!  If you have the time, please join us.

For more information, contact Kristan Collins at colorkcc@icloud.com.

One month and counting until the first opening of the BRIDGE Oregon Region SAQA Exhibit!  The committee is working to finalize details for the opening.

Venue:  Beaverton City Hall.  The address is 12725 SW Millikan Way, Beaverton, OR 97005. Regular building hours are 8-5.  For those who would like to ride Max, take the Blue line train towards Hillsboro, exiting at Beaverton Central Stop.  City Hall is located adjacent to the south side of the tracks.  The exhibit will be on three floors:  Main, 2nd and 3rd.

Volunteers needed for:

Reception:  Would anyone like to take on reception planning?

Publicity:  Flyers and Cards are being designed.  We could use some help for distribution.

If any of these are areas you may be interested in, please send an email to saqaorexhibits@gmail.com.

The 2017 SAQA Trunk Show tour in Oregon has been extended to September 2017 so that it can be shown at Northwest Quilting Expo.  We have Trunk F, a collection of 57 pieces. If any SAQA member has an idea for where the trunk show could be taken - to a guild?  to an art center for a brief presentation? - contact Georgia French (gfrench1946@gmail.com) and we will try to make it happen.

The 2018 SAQA Oregon Conference steering committee has selected a keynote speaker. The artist has agreed to teach a one-day workshop in addition to giving the main presentation. The contract is being finalized this month. We'll announce details soon.  Thanks to Mary Ann McCammon for joining the committee.

The “Blending Poetry & Cloth” SAQA Oregon Regional Exhibit has finished its run.  Quilts have been returned to the artists.  Thanks to Leotie Richards and Jean Wells, the exhibit curators, to the artists, and to all the others who contributed to making this a successful exhibit.  SAQA Oregon was invited to present a special showing of Blending Poetry & Cloth quilts at Southern Oregon University in Ashland in April 2017; Grace Ladygo has kindly volunteered to coordinate that event.  Thanks to Grace and to the artists who have expressed interest in being a part of this event.

CENTRAL OREGON SAQA Pod

Our upcoming SAQA meeting is approaching and so is the solar eclipse.

Given the predicted craziness we have decided to shift our next meeting’s agenda, location, and time.  We will meet on Thursday 8/17 at 2 pm at Sisters Coffee House to review the highlights of the quilt show and discuss our focus for the upcoming meetings.

Jan Tetzlaff has done an amazing job of organizing our meetings and events for the last 2 years.  Jan - you are irreplaceable!!!  As I humbly transition into her position I am asking for everyone’s input, wisdom, and inspiration as we plan our upcoming meetings.  Hopefully, this relaxed setting will enhance everyone’s creativity.

I know many of you are out of town or busy with family during this busy time.  However, if you are available, please join us and help us shape an agenda that supports you and your artistic endeavors.

For more information, contact Kristan Collins at colorkcc@icloud.com.
